WHAT IS VAPING?

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling vapor (also known as aerosol) produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device.

WHAT IS AN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE?

An electronic cigarette [also known as e-cigarette, e-cigs, e-hookah, e-vaporizers, vapes, vape pens, electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS)] is a battery-operated device that people use to inhale vapor created by heating e-liquid through a heating element known as an atomizer. A full electronic cigarette set up is composed of the device (also known as a mod), an atomizer, and batteries. Some electronic cigarette set ups come as an “all-in-one” package and others can be put together by using different types of components listed above.

Electronic cigarettes come in various shapes and sizes with the earlier versions made to look like regular cigarettes (known as “cigalikes”). In modern days, electronic cigarette companies now offer a range of products with different purposes that can fit to a consumer’s preference.

WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF AN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE?

An electronic cigarette is composed of a device, an atomizer, and batteries.

Electronic Cigarette Device (also known as a MOD) – This is the main body of an electronic cigarette it is what controls the overall system. This body is where the atomizer and batteries are installed. Some devices allow you to change the power output (voltage and wattage) which in turn results in more vapor production while other devices have fixed power output by design.

Atomizer – An atomizer is generally described as any device that transforms liquid into mist, or in our case, vapor. Atomizers come in many forms including tanks, rebuildable drip atomizer (RDA), rebuildable tank atomizer (RTA), and pods (all-in-one atomizer made for compact devices). E-liquid is filled into atomizers. Inside the atomizer is the heating element which are known as Coils. When attached to a device, power is sent to the atomizer coils in order to heat them up, resulting in e-liquid transforming into vapor. There are many different types of atomizers and coils that can handle a wide range of power outputs, which in turn should be the limiting factor when choosing a device. You should never set your device’s power output higher than the recommended range of the atomizer and its coils.

Batteries – Batteries are the main power source of an electronic cigarette. Some batteries are considered external and some are internal (which is built into the device itself). External batteries are cylindrical lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries with the most common type being an 18650. Majority of electronic cigarette devices are made for use with this type of battery. Other types of batteries used in electronic cigarettes include 13500, 20700, 21700. Never use a battery that is not recommended with the device you are using. We always recommend that you also recharge external batteries with an external charger rated for use with that specific battery.

NOTE: ALWAYS TAKE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING ANY BATTERY. NEVER EXPOSE IT TO HEAT, METALLIC OBJECTS, OR LIQUID. NEVER USE DAMAGED OR WORN BATTERIES. ALWAYS DISPOSE OF BATTERIES PROPERLY.

        WHAT IS E-LIQUID?

E-liquid (also known as e-juice) is the flavored liquid that is vaporized in an electronic cigarette. It is usually made up of various ingredients including propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food flavoring, water, and either freebase nicotine or salt-based nicotine. E-liquid is also offered with zero nicotine. E-liquid manufacturers usually offer different freebase nicotine strengths usually measured in milligrams (mg). The most common strengths are 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, and 36mg. On the other hand, salt-based nicotine is usually offered in 25mg, 30mg, 35mg, 40mg, and 50mg strengths which is considered high nicotine.

        What is freebase nicotine?
Freebase nicotine in vaping is liquid nicotine in its purest form compared to other nicotine derivatives. Freebase is a method founded by Phillip Morris which allows more kick without increasing nicotine dosage. The nicotine is much more potent when heated and it can be absorbed much faster into your lungs and your brain. It is the most common nicotine found in majority of e-liquid brands.

        What is salt-based nicotine?
Salt based nicotine is nicotine in its natural state in which it doesn’t enter your body as fast as its freebase form. Compared to freebase nicotine, it allows a user to vape higher nicotine strengths without the harsh throat feeling. It allows for a smoother vaping experience.

What nicotine strength is right for me?
Determining your nicotine strength isn't as scary as it seems, and the way we always like to equate it is based on what kind of cigarettes you were smoking if you were a former smoker. To put it simply, a light cigarette is roughly 12mg of nicotine, while a "full-flavored" is about 18mg. It's important to note that the level of nicotine in your juice will not only affect your cravings for it, but also your throat-hit (the burning feeling in the back of your throat when you inhale a cigarette). For a heavier throat hit, most tend to go for the higher nicotine, and vice versa. If you are still unsure of what strength to use, go one level lower and try it out, if it is not enough you can always move upwards, if it is too strong, then move downwards. As you move to a more advanced set-up, you will be vaping more e-liquid in volume, due to higher-end devices being more powerful, and thus with a heavier consumption rate, nicotine level should be decreased accordingly.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?

To get started, you're going to need a few things. You'll first need a device which is the main powerhouse of the e-cigarette. Then you'll need an atomizer to sit on top of the device. It would also be a good idea to pick up a few extra coils for your tank so that when one burns out and starts getting old, you can replace it right away. Picking up a charger for your battery is a must as well, so that it can be quickly recharged for your vaping needs.

Lucky for you, in this day and age of technology in vaping, many companies now provide an all-in-one solution through their Starter Kits! These kits include bundled devices and atomizers that are recommended for use with each other. Starter kits are a great way to make your way into the vaping world. Depending on which Starter Kit you look into, you may or may not need purchase Batteries or Chargers as some kits are internal battery.

The only thing left to get is some delicious E-Liquid. We have a great selection of flavors in various nicotine strengths. A great series of starter juices are our Good Guy Vapes House Juice line. We offer them in 10mL and 30mL bottles from 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg strengths as well.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT VAPING?

        Nicotine
You must remember majority of our e-liquid contains nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive chemical. Keep E-liquid away from children and pets. It is harmful if swallowed.
        Battery Safety
Please always practice extreme caution when handling batteries. Always inspect batteries for nicks, damage, dents, etc. Every battery comes wrapped in a protective layer. DO NOT USE ANY BATTERIES WITH SIGNS OF DAMAGE. Always replace those batteries with damage. Dispose of batteries properly. Never carry loose batteries around, especially around metal objects. We highly recommend purchasing a battery case. Lastly, never expose batteries to heat. They really don’t like hot temperatures.
Remember, safety is a priority. It’s the Good Guy way.
        Charging Batteries
Unless the device you are using is an internal battery, we always recommend using an external dedicated charger for any battery. Although manufacturers advertise that you can charge your batteries in the device via micro-USB, we find that the micro-USB port of the device is mainly used for connecting to a computer for updates, etc.
